History

ICOSR in 1987

The Congress met for the first time in April 1987 in Clearwater, Florida. At that Congress, there were fewer than 100 presentations including posters; abstracts were not published.  The Congress grew to include over 1200 abstract submissions, which have been published in a special issue of Schizophrenia Bulletin or Schizophrenia Research since the 1991 meeting.

2017 Update

After much consideration and discussion, the board of ICOSR decided to dissolve the organization and meeting known as the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research.  However, we are excited to announce that the ICOSR board, working with the board of the Schizophrenia International Research Society, has decided to join together under one umbrella organization committed to schizophrenia research.  Moving forward the meeting known as ICOSR will now be held under the auspices of Schizophrenia International Research Society.  A joint transition committee has been established and is excited to announce our upcoming 2019 meeting in Orlando.  The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando on March 10 – 14, 2019 and will be managed by the Parthenon Management Group, the past meeting organizer of both ICOSR and SIRS.

We are working hard to make this meeting another scientifically stimulating international congress.   The meeting will continue as it has been planned for the US in the ‘odd’ years while SIRS will also continue its Florence, Italy meeting in the ‘even’ years.  Consequently, the Schizophrenia International Research Society will now hold an annual conference, alternating in Europe (Florence) and the USA.  As leaders of the organization, we believe this joint endeavor will bring the field closer together and allow members to focus on the important mission of bringing schizophrenia researchers from across the globe to collaborate in their clinical and research efforts.

We look forward to seeing you in Florence in April 2018 and again in Orlando in April 2019!
