Dominique Endres Named the 2023 Rising Star Awardee
Dominique Endres is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center in Freiburg, Germany. His translational research is focused on understanding, diagnosing, and treating patients with autoimmune psychoses. For this purpose, he uses a multimodal diagnostic work-up with a particular emphasis on detecting novel cerebrospinal fluid autoantibodies against brain tissue. This research approach may lead to new therapeutic options with immunotherapies for the subgroup of patients with autoimmune psychoses.

Being recognized with the SIRS Rising Star Award 2023 is a great honor. I hope that this will further stimulate research on autoimmune psychosis and in related conditions, and that many people will be encouraged to use multimodal investigations to detect autoimmune causes as part of the diagnostic work-up. Although patients with autoimmune psychoses are only a small subgroup of people with schizophrenia, the correct diagnosis can have a decisive influence on treatment and may offer the possibility of immunotherapy in psychiatry. I would like to express my gratitude for the wonderful support that SIRS provides in this context.

It is always a particular pleasure to promote the career of a young researcher, especially through a prestigious distinction such as the SIRS Rising Star Award. Dr Dominque Endres’s profile perfectly matches the requirements for this award; his research activities are both very promising and highly innovative. He has previously earned other renowned awards as a young investigator, for example from the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP) and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP).
Dominique Endres has already made significant contributions to the field of autoimmune psychosis, and thus helped to bring this specific topic of schizophrenia research into the spotlight.
